I hope everyone is OK with this.

Here is the story.

I am not wimping out of the 10,000 swings this year. I have done it the past two years and really made progress and learned a ton.

On Jan 7th, I am taking my pre-exam for 4th dan black belt. If I perform well, my instructor, Grandmaster David Knife (8th dan), will suggest an actual test date at some point in the future.

4th dan (degree) black belt is not a rank I take lightly. A 4th degree is considered a technical "expert" and I really don't know if I am ready for that kind of title, despite having trained and taught martial art for over 20 years.

I have to substitute the 10,000 swings for 10,000 basic kicks this month. Don't think this will be easier. I did 500 total reps today and feel that, for me, each kick is easily as demanding as a swing with a 32kg kettlebell.

I weighed in at 225lbs today. I think one of the main challenges here is going to be maintaining weight, and holding my body together. I know I can do 10,000 swings. I have never done this many kicks. I hope I hold together.

I will be supplementing this training with heavy deadlifts, kettlebell presses and windmills, snatches, squats, weighted pullups, etc. throughout the month.
