TRAINING/NUTRITION BLOG: 08/02/12 - Hill Sprints and Burpees

TRAINING:

8PM- 75yd hill sprints and burpees.

I missed Taekwon-Do practice tonight, but wanted something I felt would be metabolically similar to it. So, I drove the dogs to a nasty hill in the desert and did some hill sprints and burpees. I supersetted them together by doing five burpees at the bottom of the hill and then immediately doing the steep uphill run. I kept my set of burpees to only five because I wanted to make sure they were as explosive as possible. This and the run equaled about 45 seconds of superhard exertion. The only rest time I took was to walk back down the hill and repeat.

On the way home I passed a large commercial gym and I could see people lined up on treadmills in the windows. I couldn't help but feel a little sorry for them. Running, jogging or walking outside across uneven ground with real wind resistance is so much better for you, and getting to do it with a dogs is a lot better mentally than watching a TV on the wall indoors.

NUTRITION:

7am-300mg caffeine

730am-

1 tbsp coconut oil

handful of raw almonds

25gr Carnivore protein with 1 tsp cinnamon

3600mg fish oil

1 cod liver oil capsule

4pm-

Went out to lunch with Stacey and the options were not that great. Got some hot wings for an appetizer. That can be an OK option, but these might have had some kind of coating on them. Then I got an "Asian" salad with shrimp. Lots of pure sugar going on in that thing. The lesson here is that eating at almost any restaurant is  pretty risky. This was probably the best option there, but still had way more sugar than I'm used to.

930pm-

Not much appetite tonight, but did celebrate a little since I can have something to drink besides just water after the July Challenge.

1 tbsp coconut oil

Huge grilled chicken breast

Several strips of bacon

whole avocado with lime, salt and pepper

Pretty healthy pina colada with coconut cream, a bunch of fresh pineapple and coconut rum. Lots of sugars here, but by mixing this really heavy on the pineapple it wasn't too bad for you. Pineapple is a great inflammation fighter.

3600mg fish oil

3600mg flax oil

cod liver oil

1130: ZMA and melatonin
