TRAINING/NUTRITION BLOG: 12/02/13 - Note on December Turkish Getup and Swing Challenge.

TRAINING:

12/01

1 TURKISH GETUP AND ARMBAR STRETCHES WITH 16KG.

12/02

16 TAEKWON-DO HYUNGS

2 TURKISH GETUPS AND ARMBARS WITH 16KG AND 20KG.

I don't mind that this is going to be a slightly easier week for me. I know things will get harder soon as I work up through the rack of bells to the 48kg.

I'm giving everyone notice that I'm not doing the December Challenge as-written this year. This is tough for me, in that I always like to lead this challenge because, really, I only came up with it for myself, in 2009.

I have repeated this challenge four times, gotten great results every time using the swings and mixed in the squats a couple of the years. I know this is a winner if you do every rep required and don't puss out! The last few weeks of it pretty well suck and take a major commitment.(FYI: Probably the roughest year was in 2010, when I did almost all 7,000 swings in Tabata sets with a 32kg).

This year I am following a specific swing program that will not entail quite the sheer volume, but it looks like it is going to be just about as demanding (and hopefully productive) overall. I will be doing a very dense swing program of 2-arm hardstyle swings with a 40kg a few times per week and that is it. Trust me, this is not easy in the slightest. It almost scares me a little. Over the next several weeks I will be building up to over 400 swings in less than 20 minutes with that sucker.

I started on that swing program a month ago and don't want to abandon it. I thought hard about working this program into the challenge rep numbers, but I know that is not in keeping with the idea of this minimalist swing program. I want to use it for others, but I have to test it myself first.

In addition to this, I will be adding some pullup ladders into my getups on non-swing days. I have a formula for this and as the month progresses it will add up to 100+ per session. I actually did this for a month in May of 2010 and got great results from it, so I'm going to give it another shot.
